One Point I Would Like To Make....

Is that the Change to Win Federation Convention was two days. Only one day for business. Can we all in the labor movement stop spending all this money on conventions? Between the travel costs and the meals - geesh! We could hire so many more organizers if we shortened up all the International union conventions.

Also - congrats to the IAM who had a major league victory at Boeing out west. It's a major victory - the boss likes to point out when we lose - we should point out when the boss loses!

Change to Win Convention Starts Today

The Change to Win unions are holding their convention today in St. Louis. I give them credit - no one week convention - just one day and you're out of there! I always thought that so much money is wasted on conventions and such in the labor movement that could go towards more important things.

Anyway, since I am not in St. Louis (where my mother's family came from originally), I would encourage all of you to read Jonathan's Tasini's "workinglife" blog:

He will have the best scoop on what's going on there.

There Is At Least One Liberal Talk Show in CNY

On WSYR 570 AM from 7PM to 10 PM each night, you can hear Ed Schultz. He is a liberal talk show host with quite a national following. I've been listening to him for over a year on XM radio and he is VERY pro-union. IMHO, he takes a little too much of the Democratic Party line, but he is a welcome voice in CNY radio.

Here is a link to his website and WSYR's. Let me know what you think of him!

Is the Democratic Party Out of Touch?

Yesterday, Democratic designees for City of Syracuse Common Council went down to defeat. That leads me to believe that the Democratic Party is out of touch with its voters. If the Democratic Party is going to continue to be the party of working people - they need to get more working people in the party.

If you disagree, blog here! If you agree - let me know about it.

Below are some of articles from yesterday's primary results in Syracuse, Binghamton, Oswego, and Auburn.

Justice in Endicott!

Rick White, an organizer for the Alliance @ IBM - a CWA affiliate - was fired for trying to form a union at EIT. The NLRB just ruled that the company has to hire him back WITH back pay (he's an engineer - so they are going to have to pay BIG TIME!!!!)

Congrats to Rick and all the folks at the Alliance @ IBM. There is power with workers!

Thanks to Vicki.

Sorry I haven't blogged in a while - Labor Day consumes lots of time - I'm still covering the whole ALF by myself - so the blog and the website are still not being updated like they should be.

That's why I need YOU on the blog submitting things. This is your blog - not just one individual's. So please submit stuff if it's been a few weeks since something has been submitted!

Look for candidate questionniares to be posted on the website in the next few days.
